Food - eating out (and in)

Fresh local fish is in abundance, together with many traditional Portuguese restaurants as well as Italian, Indian, Sushi, Mexican, Chinese, steak...

Among our personal favourites are L'Angolo, which serves fabulous Italian food at very reasonable prices. Just head for the church and look for the queue out the door and a warm welcome from Rocco.  Tasca Morais serves excellent Cataplanas (a local speciality) prepared by Gus and his family.  On the main strip we enjoy Pepperino, which provides cuisine from Naples - the risotto is mouthwatering.  The view from 4Rias is breathtaking.  Restinga on the beach is an idyllic setting to enjoy the catch of the day.

For those with a sweet tooth there are numerous ice cream parlours and the Pastel da Nata are not to be missed.

Why not try the local figs (usually available in August).  You can get locally grown figs at the Sunday Market and the daily market.  Once you've tried these figs you will never eat figs from anywhere else.  We even have a fig tree in the garden at Solrio (but take care if you pick a fig from the tree as the sap can be a skin irritant).

If you want a breakfast to last all day pop to Clarice's around the corner from Solrio.  The pancakes are exquisite as is the cake (and cooked breakfast).

Don't forget all our apartments have well equipped kitchens, and you can buy quality local produce from the fish market, the Sunday market or the Pingo Doce supermarket, making self catering easy, so eating "at home" is always a pleasure.
